So much of Christmas Past was a celebration of the gifts of nature. These gifts of life sustain our very being. It's a time to celebrate hard work and the human spirit. A time to celebrate the bounty that results from this hard work and spirit. A time to be grateful for heavens gift of life. Well, as I was saying, it's a great season. First, let me point out that some people who have everything would love a box of home-made Persimmon cookies. A 4-in-1 planting of Apples in the yard would yield about 5 boxes of assorted Apples to go to some lucky loved one. Not to mention the fresh Apple Pie it would contribute to the grandparents on Christmas day. Don't let me forget the candied apples that kids love so much: I'm sure there's some lost tradition there... Plum jams and jellies can be made all season long to go into a special basket for a best friend or two. Oh, man! And oh those dried Peaches, Nectarines and Apricots! You know, I have a customer who dehydrates apricots and then dips them in chocolate. Did you realize that you can make a wonderful fruit wine out of just about any fruit? Oh...Grapes still work as well... And if all this suits you well, but you wonder how can you get on the receiving end of these gifts, consider that fruit trees make wonderful Christmas gifts. Make it a gift certificate though, so your next Christmas gift treats will be a surprise. Well, there it is...a few ideas on how to enjoy a group of fruit trees in your backyard for Christmas. And maybe bring back some Christmas Tradition. |
