Yellow-Fleshed Shipping Peaches
Tree fruit varieties offered by Dave Wilson Nursery are selected for their firmness, good shipping characteristics and desirable flesh quality. Approximate ripening dates (for the Fresno, California area), chilling requirements and patent information are listed for each variety along with any special traits.
Angelus
The Angelus peach is a mid-late season yellow-fleshed freestone peach with a mild, low-acid flavor. In warmer climates, the large Angelus peach colors yellow with a little red blush. It is a firm, slightly elongated peach with good shipping qualities and good freezer storage life. Angelus is a heavy producer that ripens in late July to early August. This peach has a chilling requirement of 800 hours.
Brittney Lane
A very heavy producer, Brittney Lane is a yellow-fleshed clingstone peach with a very good flavor that is strongly acidic. The Brittney Lane peach is harvested in the 1st to 2nd week of June . Brittney Lane features large size (2-5/8" to 3"), and high color (90% dark red over yellow). This peach has a chilling requirement of 350 to 450 hours. Patent #10286
Country Sweet
Country Sweet is a yellow-fleshed clingstone peach with a sweet, low acid flavor. Country Sweet is harvested in the 3rd week of June, Country Sweet is a very heavy producer. The Country Sweet peach features large size (2-5/8" to 3-1/4"), and high color (85% to 90% bright red over yellow). This peach has a chilling requirement of 800 to 900 hours.. Patent #11090
Earlirich
Earlirich is a yellow-fleshed semi-freestone peach with a full (100%) dark red skin. The Earlirich peach features an acidic flavor. This very firm peach is harvested in the 2nd to 3rd week of June. The Earlirich selection offers good size (2-5/8" to 3-1/4") and good production. This peach has a chilling requirement of 750-850 hours. Patent # 9002
Earlitreat
As its name suggests, Earlitreat is a yellow-fleshed clingstone peach that is harvested in the first week of May. The Earlitreat peach flavor is acidic with fair to good sugar content. This selection features good size (2-5/16" to 2-3/4") and full bright red skin color, but the tips may tend to soften. This peach has a chilling requirement of 350 to 450 hours. Patent #9842
Elegant Lady
The Elegant Lady peach was appropriately named for its elegant balance of sugar and acid. A very firm fruit, the Elegant Lady is a yellow-fleshed freestone peach harvested in the 2nd week of July. The Elegant Lady peach features large size (2-3/4" to 3-1/2"), round shape and high color (80% to 90% bright red over yellow). This variety is a heavy producer with excellent shipping qualities. This peach has a chilling requirement of 700-800 hours.
Fairtime
Harvested very late (first week of September), the Fairtime peach makes an excellent freezer or fresh-market selection. Fairtime is a yellow-fleshed freestone peach with an attractive yellow skin and bright red blush where exposed to sun. The Fairtime peach features a very large size (3" to 3-1/2"), and a well-balanced peach flavor. This peach has a chilling requirement of 700-800 hours.
Fiesta Gem
The clingstone Fiesta Gem peach features an orange-red skin, yellow-flesh and a balanced flavor. The Fiesta Gem tree is a heavy producer of large, firm fruit (2-5/8" to 3") with high color (80% to 85% orange-red over yellow). Fiesta Gem is harvested in the 2nd week of June. This peach has a chilling requirement of 750 to 850 hours. Patent #9800
Flavor Crest
A popular California peach, the Flavorcrest is a yellow-fleshed freestone that harvests in late June to early July. A mid to large-sized peach, Flavorcrest features firm flesh and good flavor. The Flavorcrest peach has a pleasing red blush (70% color over a yellow background). This variety sets heavily and ships well. This peach has a chilling requirement of 700-800 hours.
June Pride
The June Pride is an intensely flavored freestone peach with yellow flesh and bright red skin color (80% to 85%). The June Pride peach is harvested in the 4th week of June and yields large fruit (2-5/8" to 3"), but may be difficult to set in low-to-moderate chill areas. This peach has a chilling requirement of 900 to 1000 hours. Patent #6747
Kaweah
With consistent high fruit pack-outs, the Kaweah peach is an excellent yellow-fleshed freestone that is harvested at the end of July and into August. This selection is suitable for freezing and demonstrates good shipping qualities. The Kaweah variety presents good size (2-7/8" to 3") and high color (80% to 85% red over yellow). The Kaweah peach provides a flavor that is a nice balance of acid and sugar. This peach has a chilling requirement of 900 to 1000 hours. Patent #10177
O'Henry
One of the most popular shipping peaches, O’Henry is a large, firm, yellow-fleshed freestone peach with excellent freezing and shipping qualities. This very heavy producer matures at the beginning of August. The O’Henry peach yields a well-balanced flavor, good color (70% to 80% bright red over yellow), and large size (2-1/2" to 3"). This peach has a chilling requirement of 750 hours.
Rich Lady
Rich with color and flavor, the Rich Lady peach is a superb yellow-fleshed semi-freestone peach. The Rich Lady cultivar is a very heavy producer of firm fruit that is harvested in late June. This selection offers very large size (2-5/8" to 3-1/4") and full color (100% dark red over yellow) but may be subject to staining. This peach has a chilling requirement of 650-700 hours. Rich May
Harvested in the 3rd week of May, Rich May is a yellow-fleshed clingstone peach with better flavor than other May-ripening selections. Although it may be difficult to crop some years, the Rich May is a very vigorous tree producing large fruit (2-5/8" to 3") with high color (85% to 90% deep red over yellow). This peach has a chilling requirement of 800 to 900 hours, and may form tips on low-chill years. Patent # 7432
Sierra Rich
The Sierra Rich peach is a very large yellow-fleshed freestone peach that is harvested with June Pride at the end of June and into July. Sierra Rich offers good handling and shipping qualities combined with good flavor and very large size (2-5/8” to 3-1/4”). Expect this variety to produce heavy and regular yields with a high degree of attractive red skin color. This peach has a chilling requirement of 650-700 hours. Patent #12391
Springcrest
Springcrest is a yellow-fleshed freestone peach that ripens May 22-29. Springcrest offers good flavor, a nice round shape, medium size, and fair color (60% red color over yellow). This peach has a chilling requirement of 700-800 hours.
Spring Treat
The Spring Treat peach was released for patent with the remarkable ability to produce commercial-quality fruit in areas with only 250 to 300 winter chilling hours. This yellow-fleshed semi-freestone peach matures in the 3rd week of May and produces fruit of medium to large size (2-3/8” to 3”) with good flavor and firm flesh. In our own fruit evaluations at Dave Wilson Nursery, the Spring Treat peach stood out for its attractive red skin color. Patent #12419
Sugar Time
A descendant of the Springcrest cultivar, the Sugar Time peach is a yellow-fleshed semi-freestone peach with a mild, sweet, sub-acid flavor and excellent eating quality. In addition to the sweet flavor, Sugar Time is harvested along with Spring Treat in the 3rd week of May. This peach features good size (2-3/8 to 2-7/8) and color. Patent # 12046
Summer Zee
Maturing in mid-July, the Summer Zee peach is a yellow-fleshed freestone peach with an excellent tart flavor. Summer Zee produces very large uniformly round fruit (2-3/4" to 3-1/4") with high skin color (80% to 90% bright red over yellow). This peach has a chilling requirement of 900 to 1000 hours. Super Lady
Super Lady is a very early yellow-fleshed clingstone peach with a low chilling requirement of approximately 350 hour. Super Lady has a balanced flavor as well as good handling and shipping quality. The Super Lady tree is a heavy and regular producer, harvesting in the second week of May. Patent # 15578
Super Rich
Early maturity dates mean low yield with some peach cultivars, but this is not the case with the Super Rich peach. This yellow-fleshed clingstone peach is a heavy producer that ripens in the 2nd week of May. Super Rich is rich with balanced flavor, good size (2-7/16" to 2-7/8") and good skin color (75% to 80% red over yellow). This peach has a chilling requirement of 700 to 800 hours. Patent # 9860
Super Zee
The new variety, Super Zee, is a yellow-fleshed clingstone peach with a very low chilling requirement (approximately 150 to 200 hours) and the earliest maturity date of the yellow peaches at Dave Wilson Nursery. Fruit ripens at the beginning of May with an attractive red skin color. Super Zee is a productive and regular bearer of medium size fruit with good sub-acidic flavor. Patent # 17874
Sweet Blaze
Blazing with color and sweet with flavor, the Sweet Blaze peach is an aptly-named yellow-fleshed freestone. Maturing in the 4th week of June to 1st week of July, Sweet Blaze exhibits large size (2-3/4" to 3") and full skin color (bright orange to red blush). In our own fruit evaluations at Dave Wilson Nursery, Sweet Blaze stands out as having very firm flesh and excellent shape. This peach has a chilling requirement of 750-850 hours. Patent # 11630
Sweet Crest
Sweet Crest is the last of the May peaches ripening in the 4th week of May and into July. Sweet Crest receives praise as an all-around good yellow-fleshed clingstone peach. A grower can expect heavy and regular production of fruit with a high degree of attractive red skin color, a mild, sweet flavor and very good size (2-7/16” to 3-1/8”). Sweet Dream
Exceptional size is the hallmark of the Sweet Dream peach. This yellow-fleshed freestone features a low acid, sweet flavor, full skin color (100% bright red over yellow), and an enormous size averaging 2-7/8" to 3-1/2". Sweet Dream ripens in the 2nd week of July and produces heavy crops with good firmness. This peach has a chilling requirement of 800 to 900 hours. Patent # 10176
Sweet Henry
Sweet Henry is a new peach variety developed by Zaiger’s Genetics with a mild, sweet, sub-acid flavor. The Sweet Henry peach ripens just after O’Henry in the 2nd week of August. This yellow-fleshed clingstone peach sizes very well (2-7/8" to 3-1/8"), and develops good skin color. This peach has a chilling requirement of 600-700 hours. Patent #16068
Sweet Juana
The recently patented Sweet Juana peach is making three-inch peaches the new standard. This yellow-fleshed clingstone ripens in late August with remarkably large average size (3" to 3-1/4"). Sweet Juana is a sweet, sub-acid fruit with good firmness and good skin color. In our fruit evaluations at Dave Wilson Nursery, this variety receives notably high cropping scores. Sweet Scarlet
The Sweet Scarlet is a yellow-fleshed semi-freestone peach with a low acid, very sweet flavor. The Sweet Scarlet variety is a light producer harvesting the 2nd week of June. Sweet September
The last peach to mature at Dave Wilson Nursery, Sweet September is an excellent low acid, yellow-fleshed freestone peach. The harvest of Sweet September begins in the 2nd week of September and extends as late as mid-October in regions such as Wenatchee, WA. What Sweet September lacks in skin color (65% to 75% red over yellow), it makes up with large size (2-7/8" to 3-1/4"), and superior firmness. Sweet Shasta
In our own fruit evaluations at Dave Wilson Nursery, the Sweet Shasta peach scored highest in color among all our yellow-fleshed freestone peach selections. Sweet Shasta is firm peach that matures in late June and early July. This selection features sub-acidic flavor, large size (2-7/8" to 3-1/4"), and good skin color (80-90% red over yellow). Tra Zee
Tra Zee is a delicious late summer yellow-fleshed freestone peach. Harvested about two weeks after O’Henry in the 2nd week of August, the Tra Zee peach exhibits superb balanced flavor, large size (2-7/8" to 3-1/4"), and good skin color (70% to 80% dark red over yellow). Valley Sweet
